Emerald Cities
Arts of Siam and Burma, 1775-1950
A docent from San Francisco's Asian Art Museum will present a preview of their upcoming show, "Emerald Cities: Arts of Siam and Burma."
Traditionally adversaries, Thailand and Burma's contrasting histories and shared aesthetic will be explored. The majority of the artworks, never previously available for public viewing, are from the Doris Duke Collection and were acquired by the Asian Art Museum in 2002.
The docent will explain the historical, cultural and artistic background of more than 140 decorative and religious artworks objects. This free presentation will include illustrations with images of the exhibition objects.
The museum exhibition will be held at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum from October 23, 2009 to January 10, 2010.
