Christ Community Church construction
By Dustin Findley
In 2005 the Planning Commission granted approval for a remodeling phase development of Christ Community Church, Cindy Hom, Assistant Planner, said at the August 12 meeting.
Phase I was completed over the summer. Phase II is to commence within 5 years. To orientate the commission the site is located at the northeast corner of the intersection at Clear Lake Avenue and South Park Victoria Drive.
The site is surrounded by residential land uses to the north, east, and south; commercial offices to the west.
The application is for two architectural modifications to change the existing roofing material from concrete flat tiles to conventional asphalt composition shingles and replace the second story window with faux window treatments.
The purpose for the modification is to allow for the future installation of solar panels that is planned in Phase II, planning it within 5 years.
The Executive Pastor for Christ Community Church believes that the re-roofing should be incorporated into Phase II to get it all done at one time.
City planning protocol dictates time limits on construction.
The goal of the commission was to be sympathetic to the applicant and be consistent with city policy.
The planning commission revised the 5-year staff recommendation to 7 years, with the understanding that the applicant can seek relief from the planning commission subcommittee after 6 years.
