Alameda County announces Leadership Academy
Submitted By Guy Ashley
Alameda County has begun accepting applications for its ninth Leadership Academy. This free, six session interactive forum is for people who live, work, or own a business in Alameda County. Through presentations from top county leaders and small group exercises, the Leadership Academy provides an excellent opportunity for the community to increase their knowledge of local government.
Leadership Academy explores the wide range of services provided by Alameda County, our mission and strategic visioning initiative, and our budget development process. Academy activities allow participants to practice leadership and communication skills such as public speaking, and participate in mock budget and other public policy exercises while acquiring knowledge on how to increase their civic involvement and network with other community members. This is also a great opportunity for County officials to hear from residents.
The Academy begins October 7, 2009 and continues through March 3, 2010. Sessions will be held the first Wednesday of each month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at facilities throughout the County on October 7, November 4, December 2, 2009 and January 6, February 3 and March 3, 2010. To graduate from the Academy, participants are required to attend at least five of the six sessions.
Space is limited. Interested applicants can obtain additional information and complete an online application. Visit www.acgov.org and click Adult Leadership Academy. For more information contact the County Administrator's Office at (510) 272-6510. The application deadline is August 28, 2009. Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis and will represent the County's various geographic areas.
