Letter to the Editor: Repeal pet restrictions
This is in response to the article submitted by the Ohlone Humane Society, "Homeless Animals in Crisis." I have lived in private homes, condos, and rentals for many years. I am now in a mobile home park. The common denominator among them, save the private home, is being forced to live by others' rules, about pet ownership. It seems to me the simplest solution for both pets and pet owners is to create a law that states if a person/family wants a pet, they shall be granted the right to have a pet. The reason so many animals have to be needlessly slaughtered in "shelters," (what a misnomer!) is because CC&R's prohibit them, lease agreements prohibit them, park owners prohibit them from thousands and thousands of people who would otherwise share their home and offer that loving home to a homeless animal. It has less to do with neutering and more to do with diminished opportunities.
