One Man's Vision
The Fremont Art Association (FAA) will present a memorial showcase held in the honor of Charles R. Aurit. This special showcase will run from Saturday, August 8 through Sunday, August 30. The showcase will benefit FAA, as well as the San Francisco Chapter of the ALS Foundation with all proceeds shared equally between the two non-profit organizations. Because of the beneficial status of this showcase, Charles Aurit's work will be priced to move, with the majority of the art priced below $50.00 and many smaller pieces priced at $20.00 and below. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire art made by a local artist at very reasonable prices for your home and for gift giving.
Aurit's work in metal assemblages is extraordinarily unique. Using scrap metal from foundries along with copper, brass and stainless-steel, his art speaks volumes. Aurit's appreciation for nature is also found in his art- often illustrated by his use of dried leaves, seaweed, shells and other natural materials; those of which he captured in resin and mounted to metal. He then formed the pieces into small pictures and belt buckles, therefore creating masterpieces that can be treasured for life times to come.
Charles R. Aurit was born in 1923 in Steele, North Dakota. He made his living as a heavy equipment operator for East Bay Municipal District. A World War II vet, having been assigned to the Aleutians and South Pacific, he received a purple heart. He thoroughly enjoyed tinkering in his garage/studio on many evenings and on weekends after returning from Church or the beach with his family. He was a patient man and this is apparent in his art, as many pieces are meticulously assembled. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," took his life on April 27, 2008.
Come celebrate this radiant man's life during this unique showcase. Appetizers, desserts and drinks will be served during the showcase reception.
The artist's reception, hosted by the FAA and the family of Mr. Aurit, will be held on Sunday, August 9, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Gallery. For more information please visit www.FremontArtAssociation.org.
