Wall of Fame deadline nears
Submitted By Rick La Plante
Time is running out for members of the New Haven Unified School District community who want to order engraved tiles for the "Wall of Fame" outside the new Performing Arts Center at James Logan High School.
The New Haven Schools Foundation, which is coordinating tile sales, has announced that Aug. 3 will be the last day that orders will be accepted, to ensure that tile delivery can be coordinated with construction schedules.
Tiles can be engraved with a two-line or three-line message of up to 20 characters per line (counting spaces and punctuation). Cost is $120 for a two-line tile and $150 for a three-line tile. Proceeds will help the Foundation, which provides college scholarships for New Haven students, classroom grants for teachers and support for after-school activities.
Order online (www.nhsfoundation.com). If you encounter a problem online, call (510) 471-1100, ext. 2004, and an order form will be mailed to you.
Construction on the Performing Arts Center is expected to be completed in December or January. The Center will include a 599-seat theater, support facilities and an educational wing, to house music and drama classrooms. It could be open for school events in January or February, and the Foundation is planning a grand opening celebration in May.
The Center was promised to the New Haven community as part of Measure A, a $120 million facilities bond passed by District voters in 2003.
