Spirited Seals take on Drowning Darryls
Submitted By Lisa Meagher
It was practically one year ago when the Seals last swam against East Bay Swim League (EBSL) powerhouse Drowning Darryls of San Leandro.
In that Championship meet, the Seals were dominated by the Drowning Darryls, losing by a margin over 300 points. But that was last year. The notably improved Seals stunned the Drowning Darryls and took the meet to the very end, but came up short and losing by a margin of 94 points on Saturday, July 18.
The Seals finish the 2009 regular season with a winning record, which is something that has not been accomplished in 13 years. The Seals success is traced back to the work ethic and commitment of the Seals and their exceptional Head Coach Ray Murphey.
Seals highlights: 11-12 boys medley relay team wins in a close heat thanks to Severin M. dropping two seconds in his freestyle to make up the difference; 11-12 girls free relay team of Felicia C., Kala A., Kylie H. and Hamasseh P. comes back from nearly a half lap deficit to win the event; and Alexis R. for the 11-12 girls dropped an amazing 10.5 seconds in her 50 breast stroke.
Other Seals dropping time: Emil R. (8 and under girls) dropped two seconds in Freestyle and Butterfly; Akshita T. (13-14 girls) dropped time in Freestyle, Breast stroke and IM; Gabby B. (13-14 girls) dropped time in Butterfly and Breast stroke; Isiah M. (8 and under boys) dropped 1.5 seconds in his Back stroke; Hamasseh P. (11-12 girls) dropped 1.4 seconds in her Freestyle; and Daniel L. (15-18 boys) dropped a second in his 50 Breast stroke.
