Presentations and Proclamations
Bruce Howcroft commended for 31 years' service as a Volunteer Police Reserve Officer.
The Newark Pavilion/ Sociedade Do Espirito Santo (S.E.S.) received a proclamation on behalf of Vice Mayor Nagy to celebrate Holy Ghost Festival on July 25 and 26. The event also marks the Society's 87th Anniversary in the City of Newark.
Approved the conditional use permit for the circus, Circus Vargas in the New Park Mall parking lot with performances from July 30, 2009 through August 3, 2009 and also authorized a waiver of the application fee requested by LOV (Tri-Cities League of Volunteers).
Approved Summer Fest at the New Park Mall on August 22 and 23, 2009. SummerFest is an outdoor/indoor art and wine festival consisting of activities such as arts and crafts, food and commercial vendors, live music, micro-breweries, motorcycle and car shows, and a kids' zone.
It will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 22 (Saturday) and 23 (Sunday), 2009.
City Manager Reports
A new one year agreement was signed with Viola Blythe Community Service Center of Newark Inc., for use of 37365 Ash Street Building #1 which expired on June 30, 2009. The conditions of the new lease term remain essentially the same as in the past. A share of utility cost will be paid on a bi-annual basis. The rent of the facility will remain at $1 per year.
Council adopted the resolution of intent to sell property located at 6066 Civic Terrace Ave and scheduled public hearing for July 23, 2009. The Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC) has expressed interest in purchasing the property from the City of Newark to expand their health services. City offices have been relocated from the building and an alternate site is being arranged for the Chamber of Commerce, currently located at 6066 Civic Terrace Ave. A public hearing will be held at the July 23 city council meeting.
