Restaurant Review: VAL's Hamburgers
On the way home from a 49er game, my friend raved about this place called Val's Hamburger's in Hayward on Kelly Street (near B Street), where he and his wife go all the time.
So I recently stopped by and I should tell you in advance that parking is difficult, but it is worth it. This is a great place for takeout, and it should also be on your short list of places to go when you are in the Hayward area. In the short 10-15 minutes while I was waiting for my to-go order, people kept coming in to pick up phone orders. Non-stop business! My only regret is that I did not have a chance to meet the owner. They were that busy!
I ordered a medium-sized hamburger and an order of French Fries. I did not order a homemade milkshake' it has to be a quart, or so it seems, and I instantly knew I could not drink it all. When you go there you will understand. What is amazing is how good the food is and how much there is of it. Do not go here if you are not very hungry! Prices are very fair as well.
Nothing is more important than cleanliness in a restaurant. The kitchen is totally visible and it is kept as clean as one can expect given the openness of the facilities. I am fanatical about clean restrooms; these restrooms are nearly sterile.
Go and order a Papa Burger and fries. Be forewarned. Either bring a friend to share it or bring a huge appetite!
