The regularly scheduled City Council meeting of August 11, 2009 is cancelled.
City Council awarded Professional Engineering Services Contract to TY Lin International for the design of Union City Blvd. (UCB) Corridor Improvements.
City Council rejected all bids for the 2009-11 Tree Pruning and Removal Project. The city has approximately 18,000 city-maintained trees in parks, on streets, around city facilities, and on trail systems. trees are inspected, trimmed and pruned with contract labor.
The Council approved the location for Veterans Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park. The Veterans Memorial Park Committee plans to have a special ceremony on July 4 for the formal dedication of the said memorial.
Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECGB) provides funds to develop and implement projects to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions. The council approved to receive funding and implement the EECBG program within Union City. The City has been allocated $638,200 in grants.
Public Hearings The maximum square footage allowed for specialty food stores was increased from 20,000 sq. ft to 30,000 sq. ft. in the Union Landing Commercial Zoning District. A specialty food store, "Smart & Final Extra!" was also approved to be established at 31070 Dyer Street.
City Manager Reports Approved final proposed biannual budget and five year Capital Improvement plan with a 4-1 vote.
Council and Agency Board approved a joint resolution of the City and Redevelopment Agency of Union City to cooperate with the League of California Cities, the California Redevelopment Association, other cities and counties in litigation to oppose State Take-aways of Redevelopment and Gas Tax Monies.
