UC American defeats UC National in D45 Senior TOC

Union City American Tigers knocked off defending champion, Union City National Colts, in the 2009 championship game of the District 45 Little League Senior (15-16 year olds) Tournament of Champions, 12-5.
UCN took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning, 3-0, but UCA answered with a run in the top of second. In the top of the third and fourth innings, the Tigers showed why they entered the game with a record of 18-0 when they scored three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to take a commanding 8-3 lead after three and a half.
UCN would add another run in their half of the fifth and each team scored a run in the sixth inning for a 9-3 score. UCA tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh then held the Colts scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning for a final score of 12-5 to improve the Tigers' record to 19-0.
Ryan Loeffler, starting pitcher for UCA, went four and one-third innings before being relieved by Anthony Armijo. Loeffler had to leave the game because his pitch count had reached the maximum of 95 allowed by Little League Seniors.
Darren Gonzales started for UCN and was relieved by Joey Arias in the third. Gonzales returned to the mound in the top of the top of sixth and yielded to Andrew Arrellano with one out in the top of the seventh. Arrellano then retired the two batters he faced in the Tigers half of the seventh.
UCN is led by Manager, Eli Ramirez and Coaches, Lupe Gaytan and Joe Castillon. Other Colt players are Daniel Antonio, Eric Calbonero, Pablo Cardenas, Dallas Goodman, Christian "Toby" Munoz, Eddie Munoz, Saul Raygosa, Alex Sanchez and Fernando Sanchez.
Jamie Delgadillo is the Manger of UCA and he is assisted by Coaches, Tony Duplesis, Tom Yau and Jason Yau. Also playing for the Tigers are Joseph Armstrong, Raphael Delgadillo, Richard Diaz, Saafir Gibson, Julian Grona-Rivera, C.J. Lockwood, Brandon Orias, Cameron Orias, Jared Realin, Kyle Riener, Marshaun Sampson, Stephan Singh, Bobby Sprang, and Brandon Yau.
Both the Tigers and Colts represented their respective leagues in the D45 Senior All-Star Tournament starting last weekend, June 27-28. UCA won in a walkover against Hayward West National and will next play on Tuesday, June 30, against San Lorenzo American. Results were unavailable at press time. UCN played Castro Valley American on Saturday, June 27, and won, 7-4. Then they played Treeview of Hayward on the 28th, winning 12-7, and next play the winner of UCA and SLA on Wednesday, July 8.
In addition to Managing the UCN Colts, Eli Ramirez coaches the D45 Big League All-Stars in the Section 3 Tournament that is being played this week, June 27-July 2 (or 3 if necessary) at Gomes Elementary School in Fremont, home of Mission San Jose Little League.
