Bill Mancebo's player spotlight: David Barr
This week the player spotlight takes us to the Niles district of Fremont where we meet 50-year-old David Barr. Barr's sport of choice is bicycling, and he does this at least three times a week in order to maintain optimum health. He's been a resident of Niles for 47 years and is a stay-at-home dad who keeps very busy raising his 11- and 13-year-old children.
David is a talented woodworker and machinist who recently created an arbor for his backyard, and also uses his interest in these fields to give back to his community. His current project is machining projector and camera parts that are no longer accessible for the Essanay Film Museum that's just down the street. Being good with his hands also helps Barr stay in top condition - as keeping his sister's bike that's been in the family since 1972 - rolling down the road is no easy task so the bike requires the mechanical aptitude that his machining skills offer.
In between raising his kids, creating great things and riding his bike, Barr likes to relax by watching sports while munching on his favorite foods of pizza and chili dogs. |
