Fremont 4th of July Parade
Submitted By Jan Giovanni Hill
The 4 of July parade in Warm Springs this year will start at Mayten Way, and head north on Warm Springs Boulevard to Hackamore lane. Most of the free parking is nearby on the west side of Warm Springs Boulevard. Roads will be closed by 9:15 a.m., so come out early, get some free parking, and bring your chairs and hats. Spectators will be allowed to bring their chairs and blankets across the street onto the median for a close-up view after 9:30 a.m. when the roads close. Once the roads close, only necessary parade vehicle traffic will be escorted by Fremont Police Department for safety reasons in or out of the Warm Springs Boulevard area. All others will have to find parking in the neighborhoods or nearby and walk to the actual parade route (heading north) on Warm Springs Boulevard. There will be plenty of room for spectators along the parade route.
Parade entries are now closed. Confirmed entries include the San Francisco Renegades, Santa Clara Vanguard drum and bugle corps, Sharkie from the San Jose Sharks, Oakland Raiderettes, Miss Alameda County, three Macy's style balloons, equestrian entries and several floats. "This year, we will also have an 'after parade event' where several of the entries can choose to additionally perform on small stages," said Giovanni-Hill. Warm Springs Little League will host refreshments out of their Snack Shack, as participants allow the judges some time to select the winners for the 40 plaques and several cash prizes that will be awarded on site. Grand Marshal Evelyn Brownie Rose, announcers Kevin Wing and Adnan Shahab will grace the occasion with their presence. Stage entertainment will be by Michael McNevin and judges will be Nina Moore, Andrew MacRae, and Jack Rogers. "We are hopeful of creating another 'best ever' parade event in Fremont. The greater community is proud to be able to take over this patriotic event and keep it going in Fremont especially during these difficult economic times. We are especially grateful to our many volunteers and to the donors and financial sponsors without whom this event would not be possible," says Giovanni-Hill.
There are only a couple weeks left, and major donations and sponsors are still needed according to Giovanni-Hill. For sponsorship opportunities, please contact Steve Cho at firstname.lastname@example.org or Kevin Wing at Kevin@kevinwing.com. Contributions can be made online at www.fremont4th.org.or by check to: Fremont 4th of July Parade 2009, P O Box 1372, Fremont, CA 94538."The 'Fremont 4th of July Parade' is now a non-profit organization so any funds collected are only used for this parade and/or are rolled over as 'seed money' to the district hosting next year's 4th of July Parade event," she said. The Mission San Jose District is slated to host this event in 2010. "Volunteers are still needed, please attend the all volunteers meeting," said Volunteer Coordinator, Roberta Fisher. A meeting for all volunteers is on Wednesday, July 1 behind Warm Springs School at the Warm Springs Little League fields. Sign-in will begin at 7 p.m. Instructions will begin around 7:15 p.m. Bring the "Spirit of the Springs" with you by volunteering in a big or small way.
