June 17, 2009 > Music from America's past Music from America's past Submitted By Jeff Yaeger The Milpitas Community Concert Band is a friendly group of people who enjoy sharing their love of music with each other. Stop by for the summer concert on Wednesday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m., at the Milpitas Community Center. The free concert is entitled 'Americana: Music from Americas past.' Music will include: Hail, Columbia (Our first national anthem), American Patrol, Shenandoah, Home on the Range, Belle of the Ball, Selections from the Gay 90's (1890's), The Evolution of Dixie, Georgia on my Mind, and more. This is my 10th year in the band, and my first as director. I started playing tuba with the band in 7th grade. I graduated from Milpitas High School, where I was a member of every instrumental music class. In my senior year, I was in the Jazz Band, Marching Band, Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. I attend Ohlone College and got my A.A. in music. I attended CSU East Bay and received my B.A. in music. I am currently working on my California teaching credential in music! My main instruments are Tuba and Trombone, but I have played all the brass instruments in concerts in the past. I teach 11 band classes at 8 elementary schools in Fremont and Mountain View. Summer is spent sorting and filing music and preparing for the next year. The band will meet again on the first Wednesday of September, and new members are always welcome. No audition necessary. The player needs to have played for at least two years. We invite local high school students who are looking for an additional group to play in, as well as people who used to play, and want to get back into it.
