May 27, 2009 > Open Studios Open Studios By Mona Shah Fremont's natural beauty is enhanced each spring when the work of local artists and craftspeople can be seen firsthand during Fremont Art Association's (FAA) annual Open Studio weekend. For two full days, artists specializing in a wide-range of art open their workshops, studios or private homes in order to acquaint the general public with their personal portfolios. Artists will field guest questions and, at a few locations, demonstrate just how the inventive process works for them. The Open Studios Art Tour is a self-guided tour of 14 studios throughout Fremont. Over 39 artists, invite the public to witness the creative process in forms ranging from watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, pastels, silk painting, and photography to ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, mosaic, and fiber arts. Open Studios is one of those increasingly rare opportunities to buy direct from artists. Established and emerging artists will showcase completed works as well as works-in-progress. The event provides art lovers with the opportunity to purchase original artworks that have not been exhibited elsewhere. Open Studio weekend was started by FAA to increase the visibility of artists and craftspeople in Fremont and to foster an appreciation for the creative process and the role that artists and craftspeople play in the vitality of our community. The tour will take place on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Maps showing the locations will be available at the FAA Gallery, 37659 Niles Blvd., in Fremont and their website www.fremontartassociation.org. Make sure you have your map as you visit each artist studio and request that your map is stamped. Then visit the gallery for an opportunity to win door prizes, provided by FAA members, for those participants who visit the most sites and have their map stamped. The Gallery will be displaying the art for this calendar quarter. "Open Studio" signs will be posted throughout the route to assist you to find each site.
