Filipino Art Show
Submitted By Julius Willis
The Center for Filipino Studies (CFS) at California State University East Bay (CSUEB) is sponsoring an exhibit and auction by Filipino artists of their oil paintings on Saturday, May 30, at Saint Anne's Church in Union City. The event aims to promote awareness and understanding of Philippine culture especially to Filipinos overseas. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
Featured at the event are the works of four contemporary Filipino artists: the Rev. Geoffrey Baraan, pastor of the Union City church, Chuck Pe Benito, Butch Payawal, and Lito Balagtas. Payawal and Balagtas are based in the Philippines.
Sponsoring the exhibit and auction is part of a series of activities by the CFS aimed at raising funds for scholarships in Filipino Studies at CSUEB. The four artists have pledged to donate part of their proceeds to the CFS.
Those that have given their support to the undertaking include the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, the California State University East Bay, Saint Anne's Parish Church (Union City), and the Philippine American Students Association (PASA) at CSUEB.
