Everyone seems to be clamoring for your limited time each day. Pause the daily hectic humdrum for a while, breathe easy, as you have a chance to spend your Saturday in the tranquil backdrop of greenery, enjoying a dance and musical performance.

Come relax in the sun as the Fancy Dancers celebrate 25 years by tapping, leaping and spinning you down memory lane.

Dances from the 40's to the present - tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, musical comedy; young performers with a strong dance background have a mosaic of treats for you this weekend.

The Fancy Dancers of Milpitas, a nonprofit youth dance team, will present two free shows, "Dance in the Park" on Saturday, May 30 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Milpitas City Hall Amphitheater.

The dance team is housed at Jensen's School for the Performing Arts (JPA) in Milpitas. The school, as well as Fancy Dancers, are directed by Patty Jensen.

The team has dancers in the age group of 12-18. The afternoon performance is made possible by a City of Milpitas cultural arts grant.

"Milpitas is a great supporter of our city's youth through this grant and other opportunities. The Fancy Dancers are proud to represent the diversity of Milpitas through dance" said BJ Navarro, Fancy Dancers Publicity.

Pets on leases are allowed. However, no barbeques are permitted. The park setting will let you enjoy a picnic, so please bring lunch, blankets, lawn chairs.

"It has been a wonderful experience watching the dancers grow and become self-confident young adults as they move on with their lives.

Many of the dancers have gone on to become professional entertainers in theatre and dance.

Others have become lawyers, teachers, accountants, public administrators and marketing professionals" said Patty Jensen, artistic director of the Fancy Dancers, who has been involved in all twenty five shows.

Many of the past dancers are mothers sharing their experience with their children, both boys and girls, readying the next generation of Fancy Dancer entertainers.

The event is open to the general public, and will showcase the dancers performing in various genres of dance.

The show is a free, drop-in program, no sign-ups are required.

Young children, teens and those thinking about auditioning for the dance team, and folks of all ages are welcome.

If you have experience in dance for a minimum of four years, and are between the ages of 10 and 22 you may contact the company if you are interested in joining.

"Auditions for the dance team will be in August, and are held each fall," said Navarro.
The date will be announced and posted on the Fancy Dancers website, www.fancydancers.org.
