Break drops Strikers
Submitted By Blaise Castren
Strikers, an FC Fremont girls U-15 House League team, lost for the fourth time this season to Break, 2-1, on Saturday, May 16, but they made it close despite having only 10 players in the second half.
Strikers were tied 1-1 at halftime, but due to an illness, they played one player short during the second half. Break took a 1-0 lead in the first half by scoring on a 25-yard shot. Then, after a terrific shot on goal by Strikers' Samantha Stephens just missed, Jenna Wondka tied the game for Strikers with a goal off of a Stephens' assist.
After a Break shot hit the post, Strikers threatened to take the lead. First, Ashley Renaud had a nice feed to Stephens. And later, Ashley Campbell had a point-blank shot that was grabbed by Break's goalie.
Break took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the second half. Kailey Richardson, who had an exceptional game on defense in the first half for Strikers, came up with two big saves while playing goalie in the second half. Renaud and Rachel de Landa also cleared shots near the goal late in the game. Amy de Landa had a good game at forward for Strikers, who finished the spring season, 2-8.
