FC ands CSD advance to BCL Finals

By Biff Jones

Top seeds of the Bay Counties League (BCL) baseball tournament - Fremont Christian and California School for the Deaf - won out in the opening round, defeating the third and fourth seeds, Oakland Military Institute and Emery, respectively.

CSD defeated Oakland Military Institute, 16-1, in game one of the BCL playoffs last Thursday, May 7. The game was called after OMI had its at bat in the top of the third by agreement of both coaches.

Game two saw FC defeat Emery. The game was halted by the umpires in the bottom of the second inning with FC at bat, because of unsportsmanlike conduct by Emery after several warnings. FC was up, 12-0, when the game was canceled.

As regular season champions, FC must lose twice before CSD can be crowned BCL playoff champions. Games will be played on the CSD campus as they are hosts for the entire BCL Tournament.

Fremont Christian and California School for the Deaf-Fremont met Tuesday,
May 12, for the right to get a spot in the 2009 North Coast Section Division VI baseball tournament.

As regular season champions, FC must lose twice before CSD can be crowned BCL playoff champions. Should CSD win Tuesday, a winner-take-all match will take place Wednesday, May 13, at CSD at 4:30 p.m.

FC entered the championship game with a 10-0 league record and 13-4 overall, while CSD is 7-3 in league and 15-7 overall. FC defeated CSD three times this year by the scores of 13-0, 14-1, and 14-0. However, CSD may have some players returning from the scholastically ineligible list.
