Art Field Trip
Submitted By Martha Crow
Olive Hyde art guild members and friends are invited to attend a field trip on Wednesday, May 27. We'll be going to Berkeley to visit Ruth Tabancay's studio. The imagery in her work is based on time spent looking through a microscope--first as a bacteriology major and later in medical school. Though it has been many years since the actual experience, these forms have never left her visual memory. On the opposite of "high tech", she uses recycled tea bags to sew sculptural forms that represent the intimacy and ritual of sipping tea with family and friends. We will be able to see her demonstrate several techniques: wet felting, needle felting, and the stitching process she uses for her tea bag work.
