3M Invitational track meet this weekend at Logan
By Gary van den Heuvel
The 14th annual 3M Invitational Track and Field competition will take place this weekend, Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, at James Logan High School. The events start at 8 a.m. on both days.
The meet, which is sponsored by Youth USA Track and Field, will feature athletes grouped into several age brackets: Sub-Bantams (born in 2001 or after); Bantams (1999-2000); Midgets (1997-98); Youth (1995-96); and Open (1994 or before, up to 18 years old).
Entry fees are $4 per athlete, or $16 for relay teams. But if you're thinking about entering, the deadline's already past: fees were due Monday, May 11.
Medals will be awarded for the top three athletes in each event, with places 4 through 6 receiving ribbons.
The meet will feature more events than would normally be showcased at a high school meet, including race-walking and javelin.
Admission is free to the public. For further information, call Meet Director Will Pittman at 510-581-4428.
