2009 Primary Math World Competition Tryouts Results

Nine students from Fremont Schools received awards from MathEdge for winning the top 5 winners in each grade from 3rd to 7th in the 2009 Primary Math World Competition tryout. Four among them have been selected to participate in the 12week training offered by MathEdge. After a final test in June, if selected, they will form a team representing Silicon Valley to participate in the 2009 Primary Math World Contest in Hong Kong in July.

The nine students receiving awards are:
7th graders: Griffin Sloves from Centerville JH, Tammy Tseng from Hopkins JH.
6th grader: Brenda Miao from Gomes School.
5th graders: Timothy Ngotiaoco from Ardenwood School_Joshua Chan_____from Gomes School, Srinath Goli from MSJE.
4th grader: Brian Tseng from Gomes School, Chris Wang from Gomes School.
3rd grader: Sabrina Shih from Chadbourne School.

The four Fremont students participating in the 12 weeks training are Griffin Sloves, Brenda Miao, Timothy Ngotiaoco, and Joshua Chan.

2009 tryout were held by Mathedge in Feb attracting 121 students from 58 different Bay Area schools. Each year about 50 teams and 200 students from countries across the globe are invited to participate. All expenses by the team in Hong Kong for five days including room, board, and local tours are covered (except airfare). It is a unique opportunity for the Elementary school and Junior High students to have an academic and cultural exchange with children around the world.
