A light schedule meant that not much changed in the MVAL baseball scene last week. It's still a two-team race, with the Irvington Vikings narrowing idle first place Newark Memorial's lead to just one game, with an 8-1 record, compared to Newark's 9-0.
Irvington closed the gap with an April 29 win over Washington by the score of 6-2. The Vikings offense was led by their usual suspects: Trevor Ramos (2-3, HR, 2 RBIs); TJ Meyer (2-3, 1 RBI); Christian Weeber (2B, Sac Fly, RBI, R); Elliott King (2B, R); and Sean Yoshikawa (2-3, RBI, R).
Michael Rogers had another stellar outing on the mound, pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts, and allowing only one earned run.
James Logan (6-3) kept themselves in the MVAL conversation with a 10-4 drubbing of American (2-8), which was highlighted by an eight-run fourth inning. A half-game behind Logan is Mission San Jose (6-4), who came off a 9-0 win over Fremont Christian on April 28 with another shutout the next day, 4-0 over Kennedy (1-9). Winning pitcher Ryan Mahuron pitched six innings, scattering four hits and notching two strikeouts. |
