Irvington High School's golf team continued its dominance over the rest of the Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) with a victory in Round 2 of the MVAL finals at Sunol Cypress Golf Course on Monday, April 20.
Led by MVAL individual champion Mac McClung, the Vikings posted a score of 782 to defeat Mission San Jose (in second with a total score of 791), Washington (821), Newark Memorial (890), American (992) and Kennedy (1031). Following their win in Round 1 on April 7 at Sunol Palm Course, Irvington now advances to the North Coast Section (NCS) Tournament of Champions South Qualifier, to be played at Fairfax's Meadow Club Tournament on Monday, May 11.
McClung dominated both rounds of the tournament, shooting a 4-under par score of 68, after his winning first round score of 71, for a combined total of 139, 12 strokes ahead of his nearest competition.
For McClung, who is bound for St. Mary's in the fall, it was his second consecutive MVAL individual title.
Other Irvington scores included Jonathan Lin's 71 (for a two-round total of 153), Jane Dong (76, total of 161), Kaylyn Sung (74, total of 163), Kurtis Park (80, total of 166) and Tyler Ouimette (81, total of 181). Each player showed significant improvement in their second round scores.
