Redevelopment Agency Work Session
Receive Performing Arts Center study results and recommendations from AMS Planning and Research. Analysis of data collected shows strong demographics for the arts. Plans for a "film and food" concept of Center Theater and use of vacant Centerville Fire Station were discussed. RDA Board asked when they would receive a report by Center Theater Preservation Group and VenuTech Management Group with a different concept for use of the Center Theater. Staff promised to put this on the agenda within a month.
City Council Meeting and Work Session
Presentation of guiding principles for land use designations of General Plan 2030. Council was asked to comment on a community vision and the principles outlined by staff including: a sustainable community; higher intensity development near mass transit; a safe and efficient circulation system around multiple nodes of transportation; world-class open space and parks; an inclusive community; thriving districts with unique identities; a diversified and successful local economy; well-designed urban landscape; preservation and enhancement of single-family neighborhoods and a safe, healthy community with access to needed services.
Council comments indicated some difference of opinion regarding guiding principles and lack of focus. Questions ranged from the meaning of the report to specific objections to single family neighborhoods. Discussion of land use elements was begun with a continued discussion scheduled for May 4.
