Strikers end losing streak

Submitted By Blaise Castren

Strikers, of FC Fremont Girls U-15 House League soccer, snapped a two-game losing streak and improved their overall record to 2-4 with a 1-0 triumph over Vortex on Saturday, April 18.

Ashley Renaud scored the game's only goal five minutes into the game. Strikers nearly went ahead 2-0 when Deeksha Mehta was just wide with her shot after she received a perfect pass from Amy de Landa.

In addition to Renaud, Samantha Stephens and Claire Castren also had shots on goal in the first half. Kailey Richardson played a standout game on defense for the winners, as did Rachel de Landa in midfield.

In the second half, Stephens switched to goalie and came up with three big saves. Vortex nearly tied the game midway through the second half when Stephens came out to stop a shot and it just got by her sliding attempt. However, fullback Samantha Malone was there to clear the ball to preserve the win.
