Rotarians combat Pediatric AIDS with An Evening of Spectacular Entertainment
Submitted By Lena Zee
Project SPAN (Stop Pediatric AIDS Now) is in its 3rd year of operation since it was launched. It aims to drastically reduce the transmission of the deadly HIV+ AIDS virus from the poverty stricken pregnant women to their newborns is AIDS prevalent villages in Yunnan, China, where, unfortunately, AIDS is still rampant. Local Rotarians are cooperating with the renowned Dr. David H. Ho of the Rotary Club of Shanghai, and the Yunnan AIDS Initiative. Our project is working and only two percent of infected and pregnant women gave birth to infected babies. Every newborn deserves to start his/her life without the woeful plight of the dreaded HIV+ AIDS! The Rotary Club of Fremont is holding a fundraiser to support this worthy project in China. Sponsorships of any amount, buying tickets, donating raffle prizes or auction items will all be greatly appreciated. Most of all, please come and spend a fun-filled evening with great entertainment and lots of food! Four Rotarians will be on the program to help entertain you. Ron Sekkel and Denny Weisgerber are both Past District 5170 Governors, Kathy Moehring with a beautiful trained professional voice is the President Elect from the Alameda Club, and Lena Zee will be ballroom dancing with the third-ranking USA champion for 2009, Ivan Spasov of Premier Ballroom Studio in Fremont. Please be prepared to dance because the renowed USS Hornet Big Band will provide delightful dancing music!
