CSEB water polo poised for the postseason

Cal State East Bay women's water polo (17-17) has splashed their way to success this season. The reigning National Division III Champions are led by a collection of talented cast members.
Jeanna Cassidy leads the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) conference in assists; Liz Warren has received conference player of the week honors this month; and Anna Rosa and Warren are among the top conference leaders in assists.
"This year's team is fast and focused," commented Coach Ellie Stewart. "We have more depth at the driver position and on defense than what we had in the past."
The team has fared well against DI and DIII opponents this season. Despite losing, 13-19, in the final game of the regular season on April 18 against Cal State Baskersfeild, the Pioneers managed to have some great highlights.
Simone Jackson scored five goals in the game, scoring a goal in each of the four quarters, twice in the final period. Mary and Anna Rosa also stepped up and had many defensive blocks in the contest.
The team is currently ranked eighth in their 14-team conference, which is comprised of Division I and III opponents.
Last year, the Pioneers were ranked nine in the conference and won the national championship.
"We are optimistic about making it to nationals this season," said Coach Stewart.
