Presentation recounts ill-fated flight
All 50 passengers perished on United Airlines Flight 615 when the four-engine DC-6 crashed into the hills above Union City. The doomed aircraft, flying from Chicago to Oakland, went down in the early morning hours of August 24, 1951.
Historian Tim Swenson will relate details of the tragedy, the recovery effort, and the investigation which occurred before Union City incorporated. It is the first of several free history presentations sponsored by Union City's 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee throughout 2009.
The crash of United Flight 615 Saturday, March 21 2 p.m. Union City Library meeting room 34007 Alvarado-Niles Road www.unioncity50.com
