March 4, 2009 > Newark City Council Newark City Council February 26, 2009 Commendation for Newark Battalion Chief Newark's Fire Battalion Chief, Mike Jay, was presented with a commendation by Mayor Smith on the occasion of his retirement. Battalion Chief Jay has served the City of Newark for eight years. Conditional Use permit extension and fee waiver The NewPark Mall farmers' market, held each Sunday from 9am to 1pm, originally requested a one-year conditional use permit in 2007. That permit can be extended for an additional year. Additionally, the Marin Farmers Market, which runs the NewPark Mall farmers' market, is a non profit organization and is requesting a fee waiver based on this status. Mayor David W. Huezo - Yes Conditional Use permit request to establish a wireless telecommunications facility On Air, LLC, on behalf of Verizon Wireless, requested a conditional use permit, allowing them to replace an existing field pole at Newark Junior High School with a new steel pole that will have mounted panel antennas for wireless telecommunications. This will be the sixth of such devices at this location. The activity of these poles has been determined as safely within the guidelines established by the Federal Communications Commission.
