Oil and Water
By Mona Shah
Farshid Namei and Carol Ramos will be displaying some of their paintings at Mission Coffee during the month of March. Both turned to art, their first love, even as they explored other career options.
Namei's formal education is in engineering and financial planning. But after 10 years in the corporate environment she left her job to follow a lifelong dream...painting. Driving home from her office for the last time, she set a goal for herself, to have her paintings exhibited in galleries within a year.
Since then, she has taken art classes at local community colleges, and her paintings have been selected and awarded by juried competitions and exhibited in major galleries.
Ramos is a teacher in the Fremont Unified School District. She has been an art student for about 12 years taking classes from UC Santa Cruz in drawing and pastels. A few years ago she started dabbling in watercolor, taking classes from Jan Schafir. Finding her niche, she has created several exceptional pieces. Ramos and her husband are fluent in Spanish, which she also teaches. They have traveled extensively and are also Peace Corps volunteers.
There will be a reception on Sunday, March 8. Classical guitar music will be played by Rudy Ramos. Refreshments will also be served. For more information call (510)792-9267 or (510) 489-5818
