Letter to the Editor: Discovery instead of diamond
As an alternative to the proposed A's Stadium, why not build a Children's Discovery Museum? As a parent, I've traveled to many. Most are not easily accessed by public transportation. If BART Warm Springs opens, then we'd have that as a big plus. It would be a wonderful asset to our community and foster higher learning. Also it has the added benefit of not impacting traffic at peak hours and has negligible crime impact - in fact it may reduce crime as our young minds are opened to greater possibilities.
While recently in Santa Ana, we visited the Discovery Cube (www.discoverycube.org/) which was packed with visitors on each of two days and two separate trips to the area. It is a fabulous model. In Fremont, we would have BART riders from the entire Bay Area.
While this may not be a huge money-maker up front, it will increase the value of living in the community. Property values may be positively influenced, thus increasing future revenues without drain on other crucial resources and creating nuisance.
I do oppose the A's Stadium proposal. I do not want the problems associated with it here in my backyard, nor in my community. There are better things to do with our resources both present and ongoing. I do not support ANY taxpayer monies going to fund nor mitigate the effects of private venture. This is NOT a boon to our community so much as a boondoggle.
I agree too with Patty Lacy who, in a previous letter, suggested welcoming the Tesla plant and its many high paying jobs. YES!
