Frank Goulart, President of the Friends of Hayward, gave a short historical presentation to celebrate President's Day and the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. The Lincoln Highway was routed through Hayward between 1913 and 1927 taking in part of Grove Way, A Street and Foothill Blvd. The presentation was accompanied by contemporary photographs of buildings and businesses along its route.
Felipe Razo, speaking on behalf of the Friends of Hayward Public Library, urged the Council to place a revenue Measure on the ballot to stabilize the City's finances and prevent further decline in library services.
Jim Drake expressed concern about management of the City's vehicle fleet. He has monitored the price of fuel in Hayward and has noticed City-owned vehicles refuelling regularly at the same gas station whose prices are not always the cheapest. The City Manager will investigate policies regarding fuel supplies.
Councilmember Bill Quirk commented on the benefit that Walker Landing brings to its residents and congratulated and extended his thanks to Councilmember Olden Henson and Eden Housing for the development.
