Hayward opens homework center
Hayward Public Library is opening a Homework Support Center at the main library and is looking for volunteer Homework Helpers.
The center, for grades K - 12, will be open Monday through Thursday from 3-5 p.m. in the meeting room. Homework Helpers will help students in all subjects. The center also has a computer lab and other needed supplies to assist students with homework.
"Our goal here at the Homework Support Center is to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for students to be able to build their confidence levels and critical thinking skills," said Lindsey Vien, Homework Support Center Coordinator.
The Library is recruiting Homework Helpers with flexible schedules who can commit to working through June. Volunteers must be at least 15 and should communicate effectively, know how to use a computer and the Internet, and have strong organizational skills.
A Homework Support Center at the Weekes Branch is expected to open in mid-March.
The library also offers Live Homework Help online through Tutor.com. Students from all educational levels can use this service daily between 1-10 p.m. in the Library or from home. All that is needed is a library card.
