Chabot Softball wins two; Ohlone playing nail biters

By Biff Jones

Rain washed out games for both Chabot and Ohlone's softball teams on Tuesday, Feb. 17. But both teams resumed play on Thursday, Feb. 19, with Coast Conference North (CCN) wins.

Ohlone traveled to Foothill College of Los Altos Hills and won, 8-0, while Chabot hosted City College of San Francisco and ended on top, 12-3, in a game shortened to five innings because of the eight-run mercy rule. On Friday, Feb. 20, Chabot traveled to Foothill to make up Tuesday's rain out and won, 8-4, to improve to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in CCN.

Saturday, Feb. 21, saw Ohlone travel to San Jose City College for a doubleheader. In the first game they lost, 2-1, to College of the Siskiyous of Weed, a Nor Cal powerhouse. Then in game two, Ohlone prevailed, 4-2, over host SJCC, one of the best teams in Coast Conference South, to go 7-5 overall while being 1-0 in CCN.

Next up for Head Coach Chelsea Spencer's Chabot Team is an away game against CCN opponent De Anza of Cupertino on Thursday, Feb. 26. Then they host American River College of Sacramento and College of the Redwoods of Eureka on Saturday, Feb. 28. Game times are 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

For Ohlone Head Coach Donna Runyon's squad they host CCN foe Mission of Santa Clara on February 26 at 3 p.m. then have a home tripleheader on Feb. 28 at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. versus Siskiyous and Solano of Fairfield. Ohlone then hosts De Anza on Tuesday, March 3, at 3 p.m. before traveling to Chabot on Thursday, March 5, for a 1 p.m. encounter.

Coach Spencer and Ohlone Scorekeeper/Statistician Cheryl Kato contributed to this article.
