CSEB Lady Pioneers continue to plummet
By Idorenyin Uto-Uko
Cal State East Bay Lady Pioneers were looking to blaze new trails this Saturday with a win at home against Dominican University, but were faced with strong opposition from its Cal-Pac Conference opponent.
The team began the short month off with three games in one week. They lost to Bethany College on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 87-58. In the contest, Kristin Lin had 11 points; and Morgan Hunter dipped in with 18 of her own.
The ladies hoped to bounce back in a roller coaster of a game two days later against William Jessup University.
First-year Head Coach Toni West saw her team play with a lot of heart in the first half. CSEB was only down 11 (34-23) at halftime. West's team would outscore WJU 35-34 in the second half. However, that wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. CSEB would lose 68-58.
Despite the loss, the Pioneers had a balanced scoring attack with Morgan Hunter scoring 12, Andrea Rodriguez netting 16, and Amy Elliot and Ashley Jacobs each putting in nine.
And in the final game of the Lady Pioneers' week, they faced off against Dominican hoping to salvage one win in its three-game week. However, that wouldn't be the case. CSEB would drop its third game of the week, and drop to 4-10 in the Cal-Pac (5-17 overall), with a 79-73 loss.
The team has only two games this week. Wednesday, Feb. 11, the team travels to U.C. Santa Cruz; and they continue on the road Saturday, Feb. 14, against Pacific Union College.
