January 28, 2009 > Chess tournament scheduled Chess tournament scheduled Submitted By Ken Zowal The Fremont Chess Club is sponsoring a four-round Swiss System tournament starting Friday, February 6. In a Swiss System tournament, players are matched according to how well they have done in a previous round; winners of one round are matched against winners of the same round, losers against losers, and so on. Tournament play is scheduled on February 6, 13, 20, and 27 with rounds at 8 p.m.; players can register for the chess tournament on February 6 between 7 and 8 p.m. at 3375 Country Drive in Fremont. There is $15 registration fee. Sets and boards are provided, but players must bring their own clocks. One half point bye will be available for any round (round 4 must be requested before round 1). Time control is game/90, meaning each player has 90 minutes on their time clock with a total of three hours to finish the game.
