Town Hall meeting about emergencies
By Dustin Findley
Join Milpitas residents, City Commissioners, Public Officials including City Manager Tom Williams, Fire Chief Clare Frank, Police Chief Dennis Graham, in an informative discussion about how to protect yourself and your family in the event of an earthquake or other emergency.
The guest speaker will be Sean Simonson, Milpitas Office of Emergency Services. Simonson will cover such topics as basic emergency preparedness in the home, with children, at work, and also go over 72 hour kits. These kits are water, food, supplies, "necessities to survive for 72 hours" Simonson said. They are 72-hour kits because FEMA has deemed the 72-hour Rule, which states "the likelihood of you getting professional help in a major disaster within 72 hours is not very good. They're going to be busy with really big stuff" said Simonson.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns to the Milpitas City Manager, Fire Chief and Police Chief about other issues including traffic congestion, neighborhood preservation, child safety, cost of city services (water, garbage), and street sweeping.
