Letter to the Editor: Human Spirit alive and well in Tri-Cities
This year, Tri-City Volunteers, our local food bank, saw a record surge in the amount of clients needing help. In November TCV was greatly worried that we would not be able to serve all those in need who came to our doors for help during the Holidays.
Thankfully that didn't happen. The people of the Tri-Cities showed great generosity and came out in force to the rescue. This year between December 8th and December 24th we gave away 6,324 toys - that's one toy per minute! We also supplied 4,714 holiday food baskets representing more than $50,000 in food. Without the generous donations from the Firefighters of Fremont, our local businesses and the people of this area, we could not have met the urgent and dire need. I wish all of you could have seen the joy and relief on our clients' faces when we gave them food and Christmas toys for their children.
This Holiday you all came through and we can feel good about that. Unfortunately hunger is a year-round problem. We continue to see more and more people knocking on our doors. Yet despite our economic difficulties, I am proud to report that the human family is alive and well in the Tri-Cities!
