Niles Holiday Home Tour
By Monica Barbara
For 12 years, the Niles Main Street Association (NMSA) has hosted its Holiday Home Tour. Conceived by the NMSA board in response to the community, the annual holiday event highlights homes in Niles that have been stylishly and festively decorated for the holiday season. In the past the driving/walking tours have featured 10 to 15 homes.
This year's tour promises to offer just as much viewing entertainment as tours in years past. Says Al Cunha, President of NMSA, "It's a testament to the community's commitment that we have the same amount of homes this year considering the current economy."
This year's tour will be held Saturday, December 13, from noon to 5 p.m. A reception, featuring snacks and silent films will kick off the tours at the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum located at 37395 Niles Boulevard in Fremont. At least 10 homes will be included in this year's tour plus additional sites; it is suggested that onlookers begin the tour by 3 p.m.
Tickets for the tour are $15 per person, if purchased in advance. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on December 13 for $20. Proceeds from the tour benefit both the Niles Main Street Association and the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, in which guests can visit and shop during the pre-tour reception.
The Niles Main Street Association is a nonprofit organization and was established in 1996 after a rigorous application process resulted in Niles being accepted as an official Main Street Community. The association and the annual tour seek to promote the preservation and appreciation of Niles history and to continue the community's legacy of civic commitment, neighborhood charm, diversity and friendliness.
