Patterson House Continues Holiday Tradition
By Monica Barbara
One of Fremont's prized historical sites has been the Patterson House, nestled on the 200-acre property of Ardenwood Historic Farms. The house was originally owned by George Washington Patterson, a Midwestern transplant that became wealthy through farming in the 1800s, and his family. For years, the Patterson House has helped to define the holiday season in Fremont with their slew of activities.
Christmas at Ardenwood was held this past weekend, unveiling the Patterson House's Christmas decor, and the annual Evening at the Patterson House and Christmas House Tours are scheduled to take place in the coming weekends. The Evening at Patterson House will be held Friday, December 12 from 5 p.m. - 8:45 p.m., and the Christmas House Tours will be held Thursday through Sunday December 11-14 and 18-21.
It is the latter, the Christmas House Tours, that may be most anticipated by the community and the most labor-intensive for the docents that care for Patterson House with great pride.
Each year, Patterson House docents take pleasure in individually decorating a room in the historic home. In year's past, a theme has been adopted, and each docent is given free reign to interpret that theme in their assigned room.
Tours are made even more festive by the docent's period costumes, reflective of the home's Victorian heritage.
Gather your friends and family for a visit to the Patterson House this holiday season. It is sure to provide a mixture of history, tradition and charm that makes this time of year so special.
