Ohlone men's basketball has tough weekend
By Giovanni Albanese Jr.
Ohlone College men's basketball team traveled to El Cajon the weekend of Friday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Dec. 7, to take part in the 37th Annual Grossmont College Tournament. After a good start, the Renegades dropped two in a row to end the tournament.
In day one of the tournament, Ohlone took the court against the host team, Grossmont College. The Renegades disappointed the home crowd by taking this game handily, 70-60.
Following their 10-point victory over Grossmont, things only got tougher for Ohlone. They next tipped off against Cypress on Saturday, Dec. 6. It was very tight at the end, where either team could have come on top. However, Cypress managed to come up with the plays needed to prevail, 61-59.
Even with the loss in the semifinals against Cypress - who eventually lost in the championship to Chaffey - Ohlone got a chance to knock the sour taste out of its mouth against Cuesta in the third-place game on Sunday, Dec. 7.
It was another tight game for the Renegades on Sunday afternoon. And again, they came up on the short end of the stick, 70-67.
Ohlone will look to rebound from their tough outing at the Grossmont College Tournament with home games against Gavilan (Wednesday, Dec. 10) and Santa Rosa (Saturday, Dec. 13).
