Over a two week period, 32 teams in eight different brackets participated in the Nor-Cal State Cup Championship. During their intense run to the Cup Final, the no. 14-ranked Fusion played seven teams ranked in the top 10 of the Nor-Cal State Cup.
Fusion made a stunning comeback from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2 against Bay Oaks Storm in the quarterfinal game in Sacramento.
Alliance FC Fusion then faced El Dorado Eclipse United in the semifinals in Manteca. Fusion led a relentless attack on Eclipse United from the beginning and never let up, finishing with a convincing 4-0 victory and a spot in the championship.
The Fusion returned to Manteca on a cold, foggy Sunday morning to face a motivated Santa Rosa Tremors squad in the Nor-Cal Cup Championship.
Fusion found them selves down 1-0 entering the second half, but never showed signs of panic. A confident Fusion team tied the match in the first 10 minutes of the second half on a goal by Elisa Pelayo assisted by Aundria Vargas. Five minutes following the first goal, forward Vanessa Mejia scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Kayla Tahaafe. The Fusion offense continued with a barrage of shots on the Tremors goal keeper and fought off the Tremors pressing offense the last five minutes of the match to hold on, 2 -1.
Alliance FC Fusion brings the Union City Youth Soccer League (UCYSL) its first Nor-Cal State Cup U-9 Girls Championship in its more than 30 year existence.
