Letter to the Editor: More than just words!
During this heated political season, we've been inundated with words, slogans and promises. These words, delivered with flair, humor, passion, have amazing power behind them; they convey ideas, inspire action and make us believe in a multitude of "things." Words count, but actions speak louder than words! The proof of that is seen every day in the creative, energetic and selfless contributions retired teachers make year after year to benefit others. Their volunteer work extends to innumerable organizations, institutions, families and individuals. It is remarkable that these teachers, who during their careers devoted so much of themselves to their students, continue that spirit of giving for the good of society.
This past year alone, the California Retired Teachers' Association, F.U.N. Division (Fremont, Union City, Newark) showed their dedication by contributing over 24,216 hours of volunteer work. Each year we acknowledge Retired Teacher's Week (November 2 -8) as a reminder to all that teachers never retire when it comes to answering the needs of others.
