Festival of lights parade needs help
The winter holiday season traditionally begins with family gatherings for Thanksgiving dinner. On the evening following Thanksgiving thoughts quickly turn toward the imminent arrival of Santa Claus at the Niles Festival of Lights Parade. This tradition continues this year on Friday, November 28 as people gather along the main street of Niles to watch the first tree lighting, munch on goodies and drink hot chocolate while watching a unique parade of bands, baton twirlers, community groups and floats, listen to holiday music and visit with Santa.
Parade Chairperson Marie Dear of the Niles Merchant's Association expects another exciting lineup along with Santa's first appearance this year. Beginning at 6 p.m., the parade will travel along Niles Boulevard, concluding at 9 p.m.
This year, additional sponsors and volunteers are needed to make sure the parade continues its long tradition. Those who can help are asked to contact the Niles Merchants Association at (510) 792-8023 or visit www.nilesmerchants.com.
