On the weekend of October 25, OTC participated in Newark's Orange and Black tournament which attracted teams from all over Alameda County.
It was a bittersweet experience for Fremont's U-16 girls champions: good because they placed fourth out of 12 excellent teams; but also sad as they had to play without midfielder Rachel Heng who missed the tournament due to an injury she picked up earlier in the season.
OTC, sponsored by Irvington's Mountain Mike's Pizza, played some of its best soccer of the season and was the only House team in the tournament to make the Sunday playoff games.
In its first game on Saturday, OTC overcame a tough Newark Hot Shots team, 4-3, with goals from Zarin Khan, Erica Ohye and Selina Mahesri (2). But, the girls dropped their second game, 2-0, to the Livermore Lady Hawks, despite dominating most of the game.
On Sunday morning, OTC redeemed itself by defeating East Diablo, 2-0, with goals from Ohye and Megan Dunn. The victory proved to be enough to put OTC into the third-place playoff on Sunday afternoon against Chaos, another Fremont team.
OTC played a tough game against the experienced Chaos and was unlucky to be 2-0 down at the halftime break. Early in the second half, OTC had another setback when goalkeeper, Sara Talooi, received a concussion when she bravely dived at the feet of a Chaos forward, saving the goal but getting kneed in the head. Talooi had to leave the field and was replaced by Tiffany Sarchet for the remainder of the contest.
OTC played well and almost got a goal back when Kinsey Mead took a long-range free kick which beat the keeper, but was headed off the line by a Chaos defender. That was the closest OTC came to scoring, and the game ended 2-0, making OTC the fourth-place team.
