New Haven Unified School District briefs

The Board of Education is making progress in the selection process for a new Superintendent; we hope to have an announcement October 31.
Director of Assessment Craig Boyan presented API and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) results from 2007-08, showing impressive student progress. Alvarado Middle School improved by 38 points on the API, and there also were double-digit gains at Barnard-White Middle (17) and Searles Elementary (13). As a whole, the District recorded double-digit improvement for the third time in four years, jumping 13 points, and every sub-group improved, including Caucasians (24), African-Americans (22), socio-economically disadvantaged students (17), Asians (14), English learners (12) and Hispanics (11).
Also, the Board approved the 2008-2012 Career Technology Education (CTE) plan, created in partnership with the Mission Valley Regional Occupational Program. Among other opportunities, the Plan takes advantage of the Performing Arts Center being constructed at Logan and the coming Culinary Arts Institute.
Agendas of regular Board of Education meetings and minutes of past meetings are available on the District Web site: www.nhusd.k12.ca.us |
