October 22, 2008 > A Halloween parade A Halloween parade Although October 31 is officially Halloween when costumed "spirits" roam seeking treats, a preview took place on Saturday afternoon, October 18. As the Candle Lighter Ghost House in Fremont opened to gathering crowds, nearby pirates, fairies, walking pumpkins and a variety of characters, charming, amusing and scary paraded before a panel of judges. Led by the costumed American High School Marching Band, participants, some in the arms of their parents, treated an admiring crowd to an entertaining afternoon. Trophies for funny, cute and scary entries were awarded but all were considered winners and received a goody bag. The Candle Lighter Haunted Train will continue to bring thrills and chills to visitors throughout the month of October. This train is filled with ghosts and goblins that will hang around until the train reaches its destination on October 30. A tradition in Fremont for four decades, the Candle Lighters Ghost House has become synonymous with family fun. To bring order to this unruly gang of characters, a coven of witches rules the area. Good witches are on hand to quiet the more unruly demons when small children and less adventurous adults venture within the station walls. Along with the haunted house full of witches, goblins and ghosts, there will be a carnival featuring a midway of games and food booths. Known for their delicious caramel apples, it will also feature a country store with Halloween treats. Carnival games, including a "Wheel of Fortune" and ring toss, a prize stand, a duck pond, face-painting, and snack bar offer a nice way to relax from the adrenaline stimulating tour through the House. The Candle Lighters is a non-profit organization that raises funds to distribute to community-based projects.
