Ohlone College Campus is the "Greenest College in the World!"
LEED Platinum-the highest level possible-was awarded to Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology for green building construction. Ohlone president, Dr. Gari Browning, received notice August 21 from the US Green Building Council that the new Ohlone College campus in Newark achieved Platinum Certification for environmentally sustainable construction and building operation.
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, sets standards for building construction and operation that will have the least negative impact on the environment and the greatest benefit to the community and the building occupants. LEED certification is determined by a point system, with points given for each environmentally sound construction or operational process.
The Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology opened in January 2008 with an enrollment of over 3200 students. The building encompasses 135,000 square feet on an 81 acre site in Newark. |
