Sweetie the Tomato offers kids a taste bud tour around the world

2008 Passport to Flavor Tour debuts in August

Submitted By Alexandra Yolman

This summer, kids and parents are invited to join Sweetie the Tomato on an eight-week taste bud tour with Sweet Tomatoes' 2008 Passport to Flavor. The passport is a fun and delicious way to taste food from different countries without going on a vacation and help raise money for local schools.

Every two weeks, from August 1 through September 30, Sweet Tomatoes will debut an internationally-inspired menu - for one, affordable, all-you-care-to-eat price - offering guests the chance to sample dishes inspired by four new and exciting flavor destinations, including Italy, Mexico, Greece and Asia.

To participate in the Passport to Flavor Tour, kids 12 and under can dine at Sweet Tomatoes at least once during the time period each international destination is featured throughout the eight-week Passport to Flavor tour. They will receive one passport sticker per visit to put in their official Passport booklet. Then, from October 1-15, kids can turn in the sticker-filled last page of the Passport booklet to earn free stuff.

Each child who collects stickers from all four destinations will receive one free school supplies pack including a pencil, eraser, pencil pouch, ruler, stickers and much more. Submitting a Passport with one to four stickers will enter a child's school into the School "Fun-Raiser" Contest. For the local school, up to grade 8, with the most Passports returned, Sweet Tomatoes will match the donation amount on every fundraiser the school holds at their local restaurant for an entire year.

"Kids all across America are invited to come along with me to learn about food from other countries and have fun too," said Sweetie the Tomato, the tour headliner and honorable ambassador of fun for Sweet Tomatoes. "They can earn cool, free stuff and a chance to raise extra funds for their local school."

August 1 to August 15 - Sweet Tomatoes whisks kids away to Italy and a souped up pizza party with a menu featuring Classic Antipasto with Salami tossed salad, Spicy Sausage and Pasta Soup, Cheese-Stuffed Cappelletti Soup, Bruschetta Focaccia, Penne Arrabbiatta Hot Pasta, Italian White Bean Salad and more.

August 17 to 31 - Next, travel south of the border to Mexico. Just a few of the dishes featuring authentic Mexican flavors include Azteca Taco Tossed Salad, Albondigas Locas Soup, Posole with Pork Soup, Southwest Chipotle Focaccia, Roasted Potato Salad with Chipotle Chile Vinaigrette, all-new Handcrafted Mexican Beans and freshly-made Salsa de Lupe. Ole for Chipotle!

September 1 to 15 - Guests will then have the chance to take a peek at the Greeks and a taste of traditional Mediterranean ingredients with a Greek menu featuring dishes such as Classic Greek Tossed Salad, Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup, Old World Greek Focaccia, and Whole Wheat Greek Couscous with Pine Nuts.

September 17 to 30 - The final stop on the Sweet Tomatoes Passport Menu features the diverse tastes of Asia and oodles of noodles. Just some of the featured menu selections include a new Thai Udon Noodle & Peanut Tossed Salad, Indian Lentil Soup, Asian Ginger Broth Soup, Thai Chicken & Peanut Focaccia and Oriental Noodle and Green Bean Hot Pasta.
